Get the Look: The Selena Gomez Engagement Ring
Looks like Benny Blanco ‘murdered’ Selena Gomez’ status as single, folks! The Only Murders in the Building star took to Instagram yesterday, publishing a series of photos that showed off a stunning Marquise cut engagement ring with the caption, “forever begins now..”. Cue the collective swoon. Wondering what the Selena Gomez engagement ring of choice looks like? Inspired and ready to create your own? We’ve got all the deets.
Wait, Selena Gomez is Engaged?
Yep! The actress turned singer turned CEO said, “Yes!”, to American producer and songwriter, Benny Blanco. He’s behind the biggest bops in showbiz, think “Diamonds” by Rihanna, “Teenage Dream” and “California Girls” by Katy Perry, and more.
Gomez and Blanco have been friends since 2009 but it wasn’t until July of 2023 that rumors began swirling of a relationship. Then, in December 2023 began dropping hints on Instagram that they were dating. With Selena posting a photo of her and Blanco hugging and captioned it, “Thank you for sharing your life with me today and everyday”. Fast forward to 2024 and Blanco has put a ring on it!
What Does Selena Gomez’s Engagement Ring Look Like?
While Selena has yet to drop the details about her sparkler (and, honestly, we don’t really expect her to), we at Frank Darling fancy ourselves pros at engagement ring examinations.
The center stone is a solitaire Marquise cut engagement ring set on an oval diamond eternity band. And while we can’t be certain how many carats her Marquise diamond contains, we would estimate between four and six carats. This unique, sparkly, and dare we say-rare, engagement ring is a perfect fit for the multi-hyphenate maven. With no shortage of sparkle the Selena Gomez engagement ring might just be our favorite celeb ring of the year.
Inspired? Here’s How You Can Get the Selena Gomez Engagement Ring Look
Look, we can’t all be international superstars. And on that note, we can’t all afford the whopper of a price tag that comes with a blingy ring. But don’t worry, we’ve got your back. If you’re ready to rock a look like Selena’s we can help.
Think Marquise diamond magic or other elongated shapes
The central stone in Gomez’s engagement ring is a Marquise cut diamond. Famed for its tapered, pointed tips and sweet origin story, the Marquise diamond is an ideal choice for brides looking for superior diamond coverage. In fact, Marquise, oval, and other elongated diamond shapes can actually appear larger than same sized round brilliant diamond.
Why? Remember, carat weight is not a measurement of total size of your diamond but how much mass it has. Many diamonds can carry the majority of their mass below their girdle, resulting in a smaller looking piece. But luckily, elongated shapes like the Marquise cut, have more face up surface area, resulting in the illusion of a larger stone.
Not a fan of the Marquise shape but here for that lush coverage? Why not consider ovals, pears, elongated cushions, radiants, and emerald cut diamonds?
Do keep an eye out for bow ties
While Marquise diamonds don’t have many drawbacks you will still need to be aware of any noticeable bow ties. And now, we don’t mean the fashion item. Instead, we’re talking about a dark area that appears in the center of a diamond in the shape of a (you guessed it) bowtie.
Created via a variety of issues, pretty much any elongated shape can suffer the bowtie fate. That’s why it’s important to view your diamond in person. Not all bowties are equal and some aren’t big of a deal. So always try to see your stone in person and feel out the type of bowtie you’re ok with rocking.
Opt for eternity or half-eternity settings
Gomez’s engagement ring is unique in that it contains an eternity band of stunning oval diamonds. Not only is an eternity band a beautiful and timeless choice, but it also symbolizes the eternal love between Gomez and Blanco.
If you love the meaning and look but not the price, consider a half-eternity setting. Like an eternity band, diamonds are set one after the other across the top of your finger but stop halfway around the ring. Allowing you a super sparkly moment without the major price tag.
Be sure to measure twice, especially for eternity bands!
Because eternity bands feature full diamond coverage, they cannot be resized. Avoid heartache by measuring your ring finger twice. Or, choose a half-eternity band that can be resized. Because trust us, nothing is worse than creating your dream ring only to find that it doesn’t fit.
Stack smart
Gomez just got engaged, so it makes sense that there may be some time before we see what wedding band she’s chosen. But there’s other ways that you can conjure her look via smart stacking.
Consider this, compliment any solitaire engagement ring with an eternity wedding band. Or, if you have a Marquise diamond, utilize peaked wedding bands and bring attention to that remarkable tapered point. Above all, remember to have fun! At the end of the day, what makes Selena Gomez’s engagement ring perfect for her is how much she loves it. And if you love your ring just as much, you really can’t go wrong.
